Welcome…

Here’s a look at what is on my workbench right now, and some instruments that I have completed recently. Scroll down for details and featured ukuleles. See the menu for more information about Treefrog Ukuleles and couple new videos.

Aloha Lahaina

This tenor ‘ukulele, made from beautiful quilted Koa, is meant to try to bring a little joy to the lives of some devastated by the August 8 firestorm that destroyed the wonderful town of Lahaiana, on the island of Maui.

Tiki Concert

This concert ukulele, made from beautiful fiddleback Mahogany, features design elements based on tiki carvings from the Marquesas Islands in the south Pacific. Inlays are Mahogany and Padauk with blue Paua abalone. This is a new Treefrog body shape with a higher waist and shoulders.

Giraffe Tenor

The owner of this beautiful Koa tenor ukulele is a fan of the giraffe, maybe the perfect subject for an inlay on a long tenor fretboard. Inlays and rosette are Maple, Mahogany, Padauk and Oak and Myrtle.

A Joyous Noise indeed…

This Hawaiian Mango Concert ukulele was a fun collaboration with Florida’s own Ukulele Gent. Made as a gift for his special friend, it is crafted from beautiful curly Mango from Hawaii Island with Gabon Ebony fretboard, bridge and bindings. The rosette is Maple with Koa lettering. The top graphic are Koa inlays that comprise the opening notes of the traditional hymn “Amazing Grace”.

Puppy love.

This lucky little Yorkie has her own Mango Pineapple concert ukulele. Elle endured being paw-printed for inlays on this ukulele, made from beautiful, curly, Big Island Mango. Fretboard, bridge and bindings are Macassar Ebony. Rosette and Inlays are Camphor burl.

Olgoatulele

Finished just in time for Brown County Ukulele Festival next week, this Concert-scale Soprano ukulele honors one of our favorite ukulele artists, Tim Clark. Originally an entry into a creative challenge called Timvember, the headstock overlay quickly evolved into this beautiful Koa ukulele. Bright red Paduak fretboard, bridge and bindings contrast nicely with the Koa. This Soprano has a new Treefrog body shape with a higher waist and shoulders.

Lila & Snitch

Here’s a pair of Mango concert scale ukuleles I made for a friend’s young girls, one soprano bodied, one a concert. Not surprising, the clear straight-grained Mango on the soprano yields a full, rich a sound equal to the wild-grained Mango concert’s warm tone. Someone said the cartoon characters on the headstocks are somewhat similar to those in a movie but it’s just a coincidence. 😉

Not a ukulele…

This is my first venture into making a guitar. This is a lap steel guitar commonly called a “Weissenborn”, after it’s creator Hermann Weissenborn. It’s a plain “Style 1” like Mr. Weissenborn made in the 1920’s and sold for $40. Koa construction with Spruce bracing. Maple rosette and “frets”.
